Eastern Suburbs Paediatric OT

SERVICES

Comprehensive Assessments

Our service offers tailored comprehensive assessments to meet a child’s needs based on their referral information. Assessments are essential upon commencement of service to determine your child’s current functioning level, where their strengths and deficits lie, and to direct the goal setting and intervention process. Following the assessment, a formal report with recommendations will be supplied and discussed with the relevant parties (e.g. families and schools).

Individual or Group therapy sessions

Intervention can be provided in a one-to-one setting however we do also offer intervention in a group setting. These groups are run regularly throughout the year and are designed to meet the needs of the particular group. Children who do not attend our service are eligible to attend groups however they would need to undergo a screening assessment prior to ensure they are a suitable candidate for the program. Some of the group programs offered include:
• Regulation and Social Skills Groups
• Coordination Groups
• School Readiness Group
• Handwriting and Fine Motor Skill Groups
• Aquatic Therapy
• Life Skills Groups
• Pairs and Triads focused on interaction

Intervention in the clinic, school or home environment

Ongoing intervention is provided in the form of direct intervention, consultation with the appropriate party or monitoring the child. We encourage family to be a part of this process to ensure that skills are transferred across all environments. Therapeutic sessions are 50 minutes in length with 10 minutes set aside for documentation and written communication or feedback. All sessions are tailoured to meet the individual needs of the child and use a range of therapeutic interventions including sensory integration, functional training, systematic instructions, environmental modifications, coping strategies and cognitive training.

Setting-up and directing services in schools

Our therapists encourage implementation of a range of programs or interventions within schools to ensure that a child continues to develop and reach their full potential. Our therapists can conduct these programs in a one-to-one setting, small groups or as education programs to staff.

Preschool or School Screening Assessments

Our service collaborates with many pre-schools or daycares to offer free screening assessments to their children. This is a short 15 minute screener to determine whether further assessment of the child would be required. These screeners are conducted using non-standardised measures.

Aquatic Occupational Therapy

Our therapists are qualified Austswim instructors and use a collaboration of the AUSTswim principles and Sensory Integration to improve overall function in the water. Aquatic therapy is usually run during school holiday periods as an intensive program.

Screening Assessments

A screening assessment is offered when your child has been recently assessed however further information is required. It also can be useful when looking at one skill only. During a screening assessment non-standardised methods are used. Following the assessment a short summary report will be provided to the relevant parties (e.g. families and schools).

Workshops and Trainings

Our service values the importance of skill development in both parents and professionals. We offer small, medium or large group training programs that are tailored to meet the needs of the group attending. These programs aim to provide insight, assist with problem solving and fill knowledge gaps. Programs that we run include:
